Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the ADA

The 26th day of this month marks the 20th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, (commonly referred to as the ADA), a landmark act in legislation that has enabled access, rights and dignity for people with all levels of ability across the United States. Championing the anniversary and chronicling the festivities.

Celebrations have been taking place across the country. For example, the blog, It's Normal, has been championing the anniversary and chronicling the festivities.

News of celebrations have been as far reaching as Canada with this recent article in the Toronto Star.

The late Ed Roberts was honoured for work that helped lead to the Americans With Disabilities Act, the one U.S. law which has helped change the world for the better.

Working with our leading American clients, we ensure they are made aware of the issues with respect to independent, secure and private access to information, but also the many opportunities that exist when companies reach out to customers with disabilities.

I consider the ADA one of the most influential pieces of legislation for accessibility. In many ways, it sets the bar for the standards in other parts of the world. Congratulations to all involved, for twenty years of progress, twenty years of enforcing accessibility and twenty years of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the many blind, deaf-blind and partially-sighted individuals, who took on the status quo, and challenged governments, businesses and themselves to change from the conventional and become the agents of change we see today...and they called us disabled!

From all of us here at T-Base, to all of you involved in being stewards of change...thank you for building a world that works for all of us.
