Continuing My Journey

After 20 years as Founder in my role as President and CEO of T-Base, I have initiated a planned transition into a new and important position with reduced time commitment as a step towards retirement.

I plan to work with our partners to get even closer to current and emerging requirements of blind, deafblind, and partially sighted consumers to foster increased understanding of the benefits when corporations reach out to blind and partially sighted customers with innovative technologies, products and services that reflect the communications diversity that exists in a modern and global society.  My new role combines customer partner interaction, industry and legislative participation in significant industry associations such as BANA, Daisy Consortium, FCAC and others. 

It is with great pleasure that I have this opportunity to announce that effective March 31, 2010, Jeff Potts will assume the responsibility of President and CEO.  Jeff was T-Base's Chief Financial Officer, a position he has held since 2003. We are fortunate to have Jeff on board to take on this challenging role.  His deep understanding of the industry combined with his experience in building and growing world class organizations made him a natural.  He has participated in, and led critical strategic business planning initiatives and has a comprehensive grasp of our customer needs. 

I have been asked if we need a blind CEO, and my definitive answer is "No", we need the best person for the job.  As I had mentioned in a Toronto Star article about the hiring of John Rafferty at CNIB, in my view, a CEO needs a wide range of skills to be successful including business judgment, negotiation skills, HR management skills, financial management skills amongst many others.  In my new role as Chief Strategy Officer, I will continue to provide T-Base customers with insight and leadership on consumer needs, and help them ensure compliance with all applicable accessibility legislation while continuing to provide the company with insight on emerging needs, to service their requirements in the years to come.  

It is with great excitement that I move into my new role and to yet another stage in my life, where I have the opportunity to work with an engaged and experienced Board of Directors and a very professional, talented and innovative Executive Team.

From the very beginning of my journey in founding and growing a world class business, it has always been my goal “to build a world I want to live in”. It has not always been easy, but I am thrilled with the many accomplishments of our team and have celebrated the success and progress we have made over the years. I am very much looking forward to my continued involvement and contributing to the industry leading firm that I am proud to have built.
