Open for public review
As referenced in a previous post, “Requesting input from my communitiesâ€, the recently proposed standard for Accessible Information and Communications, as part of the AODA, 2005 is now open for a period of public review. As a contributing member of the Standards Development Committee (SDC), while I am confident that we have drafted a representative proposal, I am hopeful that interested members of government, corporate and consumer communities will review and offer feedback on the draft standard.
The proposed standard will be open for a period of public review from now until January 16th, at which point, the SDC will reconvene to review all input received, and collectively decide upon a finalized standard to propose to the Minister of Community and Social Services.
Ontario is the first jurisdiction in Canada to develop province-wide, enforceable accessibility standards. The proposed Accessible Information and Communications standard outlines how businesses and organizations may be required to provide accessible public information in various formats such as online, print, verbal and digital. This is your opportunity to provide your feedback on the current draft and/or participate in public consultation sessions.
As a member of the Standards Development Committee, I look forward to reviewing your valued feedback and to keeping you informed on the progress of this very important initiative!
